Fertility treatments for the over 40s
If you are in your late 30s or early 40s and want to have a child, Bath Fertility Centre has the experience and treatments to help you conceive – successful conception over the age of 40 is possible. However, women over 40 have fewer eggs in their ovaries: egg quality is reduced, as is the quality of the embryo after fertilisation.
Over the past 20 years our specialists have successfully treated many women aged 37 and above who wish to have a family, as our consistent fertility success rates show.
You can be assured that we’ll be completely open and realistic with you about which of our treatments offer you the best chance of success. We will only ever recommend treatment that suits your needs, with complete cost transparency at all times.
Age-related infertility and donor eggs
IVF with donor eggs is an option if you have age-related infertility. Age-related infertility is often associated with older maternal age, when the ovary’s store of follicles is beginning to run out. The tell-tale signs are irregular and even absent periods, which are often a prelude to the menopause.
If you decide to have treatment using donor eggs your treatment cycles are carefully timed so the donor’s eggs are ready when you are. The donor eggs are then fertilised with your partner’s sperm and the resulting embryo(s) transferred into your uterus.
At Bath Fertility Centre we advise caution attempting IVF over 43 years of age because of the extremely low chances of success. Also we have an upper age limit of 48 for our donor egg programme, due to the limited provision of donor eggs.
