Fertility investigations are available at Bath Fertility both privately and through the NHS Reproductive Medicine clinic.
Private fertility investigations
If you’ve been trying to become pregnant without success and would like to have fertility investigations privately, we can help you.
Accurate diagnosis is important when deciding on the right course of treatment. A series of investigations will take place using the most advanced technology.
Your first consultation includes an ultrasound scan and semen analysis. The following initial blood screening tests will need to be arranged; some may have been undertaken by your GP. These include:
- Day 1-3 FSH & LH
- Day 21 Progesterone
- Chlamydia Serology (not swabs)
- Rubella; if not immune you will need the vaccination before undergoing any treatment
Your partner will need to have a semen analysis.
Fertility treatments such as IVF or ICSI may be recommended. You and your partner would then need additional blood tests; Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV.

Single women and couples
We understand you may not be planning to start a family soon, but would like reassurance you aren’t suffering from any fertility issues. We can identify potential fertility problems, such as severe endometriosis, fibroids, polyps, lack of ovulation, depleting egg reserve. For male partners we conduct a semen analysis.
Should I get tested?
You should definitely get tested if early menopause is known in your family. In some families it comes earlier with subsequent generations, so early testing is advised if you want the chance to have children. Anyone having ovarian surgery should also consider testing, if they are yet to have children.
If you’re a single man and would like reassurance that your sperm count is within the normal parameters, you can arrange a semen analysis with us.
It’s possible for the result to be available within an hour. You can choose for an experienced embryologist can discuss the results with you, if you wish to wait.
