Ruth and Emma’s story
“We have always wanted to be parents and after settling in Somerset 5 years ago we decided that the time was right to start trying.
Emma had two rounds of unsuccessful IUI 2 years previously at another clinic. We didn’t have a particularly pleasant experience and this time we were looking for a clinic where we felt comfortable and welcomed.
We found out about Bath Fertility on forums online and decided to attend an Open Evening. We weren’t the only same sex couple at the Open Evening and immediately felt accepted by everyone we spoke to and booked a consultation with David Walker.
We had already decided that Ruth was going to try to conceive this time round. David discussed all our options with us and suggested we try three rounds of IUI before anything more invasive. The process was explained to us clearly, every step of the way, and we always felt like we could call to clarify something if we were unsure.
It was an emotionally exhausting process, it really does take over your life! After two rounds of unsuccessful treatment at the clinic we had resigned ourselves to the idea of going through IVF. With the added stress of a death in the family, our minds were definitely not focused on our third and final round of IUI.
We couldn’t believe the test when we discovered Ruth was pregnant! Our beautiful daughter Rosa was born on New Year’s Eve and is now almost a year old. The past year has been the most challenging, stressful, exhausting and exciting of our lives. We have enjoyed every minute of it and will definitely be using Bath Fertility again when we decide that Rosa needs a brother or sister”.
