Melissa and Guillaume’s story
“Our fertility journey started in 2013 when we faced devastating news about the fertility of my husband and discovered that I had a very low egg reserve. At this point we had two sperm tests showing no sperm, leaving us fearful and heartbroken that we would never be able to have children!
After several appointments and tests we had our first meeting with Dr David Walker at Bath Fertility. Our fears were put at ease and we felt hopeful that there was a solution to our problems. We knew it would not be an easy road! But felt supported and well informed throughout the many processes and procedures we went through. Our first hurdle was to find out if my Husband had any sperm and after a procedure called a PESA, we received the news that we had been hoping for and this started the ball rolling on our first round of IVF/ICSI.
We began our first round in January 2014, I was on the highest dose of injections due to my low ovarian reserve, I managed four eggs and two fertilised. This time round even though I had a positive test after the two week wait! We were not successful and I can only praise the support and kindness we had from the nurses at this low point in our journey. I was keen to go again and we started our next round in June 2014. This time we saw Dr Sharp at our follow up appointment and it was decided to go for a slightly different treatment to boost the number of eggs I would produce. At this point we felt confident and reassured about our treatment and what would happen next as we had from the beginning.
This time round after just another four eggs we had two embryos that looked great! We had built a nice relationship with Sarah, senior embryologist and joked with her that one of them looked like a golfer! a request my husband had jokingly made previously.
I was nervous at the transfer, something I had expressed earlier; Carole, one of the team stayed beside us and calmly talked us through the process as it was happening. For me this was amazing and I felt so reassured and focused, this makes me emotional to write as it touched me so much the care and attention I was given.
This time round we were successful and saw Theo’s heart beating for the first time on the 24th July 2014.
Theodore William was born on 23rd February 2015 the most amazing day of our lives and through adversity we are now the family we had always wanted to be. We have the most amazing, intelligent, gorgeous little boy who is now two and every day we feel blessed to have him in our lives. We will be forever thankful and grateful for the treatment and wonderful friendly, helpful and informative service we received.
We would like to specially thank Dr David Walker and Dr Nick Sharp, Sarah, Clare, Helen and Carole (who was a absolute rock to me).
Thank you so much to everyone who made our dreams come true you will be forever in our hearts.”
