Kelly and Robert’s story

“From the age of 18, I suffered with PCOS and always knew starting a family was never going to be easy. Ten years later my husband and I started trying for a family. After a year of nothing, we were referred by our GP to Bath Fertility RUH for fertility treatment. This is where we met Mr David Walker.

After a while, the fertility department moved to Peasedown St John. The centre was brand new and looked amazing. We knew we were in the best hands with Mr Walker, so were happy to have moved with him.

As soon as we arrived at the centre we were made to feel at ease and we were really excited to continue our journey.

After various procedures and operations (which included ovarian drilling) I was found to have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and a twisted, blocked fallopian tube. I lost 3 stone in weight and tried various different treatments and drugs including Clomid and Tamoxifen, but unfortunately never became pregnant.

Mr Walker advised our best option was IVF. I must admit we were terrified, as I felt that if this didn’t work it would be the end of our journey. But in reality, it was just the beginning.

In November 2016 (aged 35) we began IVF. My AMH level was extremely high (104), so they began with the lowest dose of drugs possible. Unfortunately, this did not work and we had to abandon the cycle halfway through. We were absolutely devastated. The team at Bath Fertility could not have be more understanding. The kindness and compassion we received was second to none. They were absolutely amazing, and we could not recommend them highly enough.

The following January we began treatment again and at egg collection we had 5 eggs collected. Four fertilised overnight and on day two we were called back in. One embryo was doing extremely well and it was agreed the best option was for it to be put back in.

Two weeks later, the moment we thought would never happen… a positive result. We could not believe it. We still can’t quite believe it now. To top that, we also had two further embryos that had made it to day five and were good enough to freeze. They are now sat waiting on ice and we cannot wait to have one or two put back in very soon.

On the 31st of October 2017 our beautiful Poppy Mae was delivered by C-section. At last, our lives were complete.

We cannot thank Mr Walker, Mr Sharp, the Nurses, the Embryologists and the whole team enough for the outstanding service we received. I have a number of friends who have also suffered with infertility and I’m always quick to recommend Bath Fertility.

It really is an emotional roller coaster, but these people make it so much easier. Thank you again to everybody at Bath Fertility”.
